3KCBWDAY3- My inspiration

Today is day three of the 3rd Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week hosted by Eskimimimakes.com.  Each day this week, the participants of this amazing blog week write a post based on the theme of the day.  If you would like to check out what the others are writing about, simply google 3KCBWDAY3, and you will find entry after entry of today’s theme!  Great stuff!

Today, I have been tasked to blog about someone in the fibre crafts who truly inspires me.

While I have great respect for all those amazing designers out there, I have to say that the person that most inspires me is my mother.  Mom is an expert in crochet, and many years ago (let’s not go into how many), my mom sat down and patiently showed me how to crochet.  I started with scarves and practiced and practiced because I wanted to be able to make some of the amazing things that my mother could make.

Then in 1974, mom got the latest Woman’s Day magazine and on the front cover was a crocheted set of three bears. Mom asked me if I was willing to help her crochet them for my sister for Christmas. And I was thrilled with the concept because that meant she had enough confidence in my abilities to trust me with helping her complete the project.  So I worked diligently on them and on Christmas Day, my sister was thrilled with the gift. She loved on those things for years. In fact, she still has those bears today.

This past year, I perused E-Bay and ran across the Woman’s Day magazine from 1974 that we had used to make those bears, and decided to remake them for my sister’s birthday.  As you can see, she loved them just as much as the originals!     And using the original pattern brought back lots of fond memories of making those bears along with my mother so many years ago.

My mom makes amazing things, like this beautiful crocheted doily, made from that tiny crochet thread that totally drives me crazy.  And both my sister and I have been the lucky recipients of many crocheted afghans, pillows, pot holders and much more over the years.

She has influenced me to always try new things and has given me the confidence to know that I can do anything I set my mind to.  And she continues to inspire me every day.

The Sitcom will be participating in the 3rd Annual Knitting and Crochet Blog Week all this week, so stay tuned!
