This week our challenge theme is signs! So of course the song “Signs” by Five Man Electrical Band comes to my mind immediately.
And the sign said “Long-haired freaky people need not apply”
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said “You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you’ll do”
So I took off my hat, I said “Imagine that. Huh! Me workin’ for you!”
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin’ out the scenery, breakin’ my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?
I just totally dated myself, didn’t I?
Anyway, as you can probably already tell, I’m a huge fan of anything vintage, so when my husband and I ran across this old ice cream stand in Alabama a few months ago, I had to stop and take some photos. I really love the old neon. Signs like this have so much personality.
Oh, and the ice cream wasn’t bad either!
So how did you do?
Email your sign submissions to me! Check out the Submission Guidelines. I will post your photos here along with any information that you would like to include. This Week’s Submissions:
This is a set of signs on a pole at the intersection near our hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario, where we spent a wonderful weekend in June. Our hotel is in the background. I just love the look of the signs with the building in the background and the clear blue sky ….
The second sign is of a local much-loved and ballyhooed ice cream parlor in our little town. The contrast between the orange sign and blue sky is lovely to me. Incidentally, I took this photograph with my ancient Palm Pre cell phone, and hasn’t even been cropped. ~Peggy – Powell, Ohio, USA, www.connecttheblocks.com
1. Pocket Park sign on Main Street Weatherford, Oklahoma, 2. Main Street Weatherford, Oklahoma where you can still get personal greetings on business signs. This photo also shows other signs in the background.
This picture was taken in Holly Hill, FL, made my Husband turn around so I could get a picture, I am betting this was a female owned business. ~Jane
