This week our them is winter! And that worked out quite well for me as we just got back from a relaxing trip to Colorado. My husband and I love a little town called Grand Lake, located about 2 hours west of Denver, in the Rocky Mountains. Sitting at about 8,400 feet above sea level, this little town always has the promise of snow at Christmas time. So, my husband and I have established a new tradition of making the trip out there during the holidays and enjoying the snow and the fabulous cuisine of the area.
Of course, adjusting to 8,400 feet above sea level can be a bit daunting. Just walking out to this field through the snow to take this photo, I had to stop for a few minutes to catch my breath and let the white spots clear from my eyes. Seriously. If you go to high altitudes be aware that plenty of water is a necessity. It takes a body several days to adjust and in our case, about the time we adjusted, we sadly headed home.
I have to tell you, though, this is an awesome new tradition that I will look forward to every year!
So how did you do?
Email your “winter” submissions to me! Check out the Submission Guidelines. I will post your photos here along with any information that you would like to include. If you have a website, feel free to add a link to your site! I will be taking “winter” submissions all week! Feel free to send your original photo!

This week’s submissions:
Of course a beach photo and then a black and white – in the snow shot. Nikon D40. ~ Athena -The Stuff of Success.

Bird tracks in the snow is one of my favorite winter photos. Just a reminder that when the snow covers the ground we need to remember to feed the birds. ~ Brenda Williams- Weatherford, OK- Cats, Kids and Crafts
Next Week’s Theme- Post your favorite photo!
I began this photo challenge a year ago and next week will officially be the last week of the 2012 challenge! In honor of that, we will not have a theme next week. Simply submit your favorite photo. That leaves it totally open for us to not only celebrate the end of this wonderful challenge, but the beginning of a new one.
This weekly post has challenged me to learn more about my camera and to improve my photography with every single shot. I do enjoy coming up with a new photography post each week and I am wondering what you think about this challenge? Should I continue it next year? Would you like to see something different? Maybe a “photo of the week”? Let me know what might interest you. I would love the opportunity to get even more submissions next year. Your photos are always wonderful.
So let me know what you would like to do! And I will see you back here next week with your favorite shot!
