2013 Photography Challenge- The Color Blue

It’s time for this week’s photography challenge!  Each week I challenge myself and anyone else who would like to tag along to come up with a photo based on the theme of the week.  It is an opportunity to show off your best stuff, and try out new photo software and learn how to use all the fancy options your digital camera has to offer.

This week our theme is “The Color Blue”.  But before we begin, please take a few moments to check out some of the amazing photos submitted last week, when our theme was “Statues”!  I just loved the variety of statues and beautiful sculptured art that were submitted from all over the world.

This week’s theme is “The Color Blue”, which is totally my favorite color.  I have thousands of photos of sky and water to choose from, but wanted to come up with something a bit unique.  And then I looked out the window and saw that my hydrangea bush was in full bloom.  So there you go.

Did you know that you can change the color of your hydrangea blooms?  Apparently the pH of the soil is the factor that decides the color of the flowers.  The pH of my soil is acidic, which results in beautiful blue flowers.  If I worked to make the soil around my plants more alkaline by adding lime, I could change the color of the blooms to pink.

I’m liking the blue though.  Just saying.

This photo was taken with my Canon SX30IS and edited using the free software at picmonkey.com.  (I am not an affiliate of Picmonkey- I just love their software).

So how did you do?

It’s not too late!  Email your “Blue” photos to me!  Check out the Submission Guidelines.  I will post your photos here along with any information that you would like to include.  If you have a website, feel free to add a link to your site!  I will be taking “Blue”  photo submissions all week!  Feel free to send your original photo!

When I saw that the theme for this week was “Blue”, I went straight to our Cruise album.  I haven’t seen such a prettier blue since viewing the Caribbean waters.  The one shot with the cruise ships was at Grand Cayman Islands and the other photo was in Cozumel.  Wish I had those views every day!!!  ~Debi Wilson, Atlanta, GA – Designs by Debilee

My first picture is of a set of candles that I have in my living room.  I have been decorating with a lot of blue lately so I figured this was the perfect time to show off a little sneak peak of what is going on in my room! The second picture is from my craft stash.  Features a few spools of thread and fabric along with some needlework utensils.  I thought these would fit right in with your Artsy-Crafty blog!  I have a post coming up in the next week or so that features that fabric as well. ~My name is Rikki and I am from Ohio.- Unraveling Ends

Next Week’s Challenge- Circles

Our challenge next week is to create photos that illustrate the theme of circles.  Think about creating something unique based on the shapes around you.  What do you see that reflects the shape of a circle?  Need an example?
