2013 Photography Challenge- Color Accent

Welcome to the 2013 Photography Challenge!  Each week is a new theme; each week is a ton of fun!  The challenge is to create a photo based on the theme of the week.  The objective is not only to share your beautiful photos, but to maybe even learn a bit more about the bells and whistles of your digital camera and have a ton of in the process!  Are you in?

This week, we are playing with the free digital software at Picmonkey.com and creating a black and white photo with color accents.  For more info on the simple process, look here.

But before we begin, please take a few moments to check out some of the amazing photos submitted last week, when our theme was “Summer”.  We had a record number of submissions, and the summer photos are not only beautiful, but very fun to look at!  Thanks to all who submitted!

While traveling in Pennsylvania a few years ago, we visited the town that my parents grew up in, Lock Haven.  My parents showed us around this beautiful historic town, and one of the stops was this little restaurant right in the center of town called, Texas Restaurant.  As I recall, there was no texas-style food, but they do make a mean hotdog!  My parents used to go there on dates back in the 50’s.

Anyway, using the free software at Picmonkey.com, I altered the photo to bring out the name of the restaurant.  I love how it came out! This photo was taken with my Canon SX30IS.

So how did you do?

It’s not too late!  Email your “Color Accent” photos to me!  Check out the Submission Guidelines.  I will post your photos here along with any information that you would like to include.  If you have a website, feel free to add a link to your site!  I will be taking “Color Accent”  photo submissions all week!  Feel free to send your original photo!

My name is Marilyn Ness, I am from Minnesota.  This is a picture I took during the parade at Disneyworld in Florida.  I loved the espression on this lady clown’s face and thought she deserved to have some special attention!  I used PicMonkey to do the photo editing.

 Next Week’s Theme- Still Life

Next week, the challenge is to create a still life photo.  A still life photo is a representation of inanimate objects, grouped in an artistic way.  Lets play with arranging objects of your choice.  Play with light, color or use the free digital software at Picmonkey.com to come up with something fabulous!  Want an example?
