Ukrainian Eggs, Quilting and a bit of knitting! Busy, busy!

It’s been pretty darn busy behind the scenes at the Sitcom lately!  I have lots of great new patterns coming up very soon, along with some fun Halloween stuff!  Keep your eyes open this weekend for my new quilt pattern, Batiks Gone Wild!  The pattern will be released to the public on Sunday.  If you liked Windmills at Night and Summer Jewels, you will love this one!    I’m also working on new batches of Ukrainian eggs.  The holidays are just around the corner, and need to be sure my Etsy Shop is ready.

And I’ve started another Ostrich Egg.  So far, it is much easier to do than the last one, simply because I read up on how to work with these types of eggs.  Something I should have done before trying the first one.  It would have saved me a lot of trouble.  But I never do anything the easy way.  That’s just how I roll.

Yep, I’ve been incredibly busy.

You see, I have this addictive personality issue. I run off on a tangent and get all consumed by one thing for a while and spend my life living, thinking and breathing that subject.  I can’t help myself. And usually, it is craft related.

When quilting was my obsession, I would hoard fabric like there was no tomorrow. Whether I needed it or not, I had to have it. I have a closet full of bins and bins of fabric, folded neatly in color coded boxes, and enough unfinished and mostly finished quilts to keep me busy for the rest of the year.

Painting? Can’t begin to tell you how many unfinished works I have sitting around. But I have enough paint to last me until the next decade.

Ukrainian eggs? I am well supplied in dyes and hollowed out goose eggs.

When an obsession hits, I just go with it and currently one of my obsessions is knitting socks. I try to keep two different pair of socks on my needles at the same time so that I don’t get bored with them. I recently finished the following:

I have been doing some test knitting for a few designers on Ravelry.  The pattern is called Opus 200, by Linda Carroll and Mel Browne.  You can find the pattern here.  I used Spud and Chloe fingering weight yarn in the shade of “Lipstick” and for the ribbon edge, I used Deborah Norville fashion yarn in the color “Paper Flowers”.

My next project?  Check out this awesome hand-dyed yarn created by Abi Grasso!  I can make watermelon socks!!  Abi has a patented method of hand-dying yarn to create these amazing self-striping masterpieces!  You can find her yarn here.

My husband took one look at my fancy hand-made wool socks, rolled his eyes, and mentioned that there is this crazy store called Wal-Mart that sells those things in packs of five for about a buck a piece. I ignored him. What does he know.

The daughter isn’t very impressed either. She thinks that I spend a whole lot of time doing things that old ladies do like quilting and knitting. But frankly, those crafts are coming back. The last quilt show I attended had plenty of folks my age there.

So we were on our way to do some errands this morning and I was using the spare time to knit madly at my current pair of socks. My daughter was watching me for some time from the back seat. For a few moments, I entertained the thought that maybe she might be interested in learning the craft. Maybe she had finally come around! I smiled as I envisioned myself sitting patiently with her while I showed her the ropes.

She leaned forward and examined my work more closely.

“How can you sit there and do the same thing over and over again for hours on end, and all you end up with is a stupid sock?” she asked.

I’m guessing she won’t be knitting anytime soon. Sigh…
