The craft kits from Artterro are not only all-inclusive, but contain high quality materials that are sure to inspire. Each kit challenges you or your child to create something amazing.  The end result is something that you and your children can cherish for years to come!

This month, the nice folks at Artterro asked me to review their Bookmaking Kit.  Handmade books are so very special!  I was happy to take on the challenge!

Bookmaking Kit

Again, all inclusive, their bookmaking kit contains the materials to make four small single-signature books with gorgeous handmade paper and decorative beads. They can be used as journals, portfolios, scrapbooks, or even contain an original story!  Handmade books make great little gifts, so I decided to make up a small gift set for my assistant at work.

Just look at that beautiful paper!  Turns out that after making four books, I had plenty left over.  I plan on making some beautiful cards and gift tags with the rest of that.  One fun thing to note: no two Artterro kits are exactly alike!  Every project is totally an original!

The first step is to select your covers from the thicker paper.  It is already cut to size.  All you have to do is fold it in the middle to create the front and back of the book.

Select some of the thinner papers for the insides of the books and fold them in half too.  Here are my four books with folded papers inside ready for binding.

To bind is actually much easier than I thought it would be.  Simply mark with a pencil the inside of the book cover.  One dot in the center and one dot on each side, about an inch from the center.

Use a pin to poke a hole at each mark.  Add the insides of the book back in, and then from the outside of the book, use those pin holes to push the needle through all pages.

Thread the needle with three strands of embroidery floss (included).  Push needle and thread through the center hole from the inside of the book to the outside, leaving about a 3″ strand on the inside.  Push needle up through the top hole from the outside in, and then down through the bottom hole.  Finally, push the needle up through the center hole again.  Tie the two end threads together on the inside and clip.

The kit included lots of great beads and sequins.  I added strands to the books for a bit of decoration.

Finally, I tied all the books together with a pretty ribbon and some Christmas greenery!  A perfect little gift that I bet my assistant will love!
