Easy lunch idea! Ham and Cheese Pinwheels

This post is sponsored by Hillshire Farm; all opinions and the recipe are my own.

Both my kids have grown up and moved on, but just because I have no kids in school doesn’t mean I still don’t have to pack lunches.  The hubby and I both commute over an hour to work each day, and saving money by packing lunches is a real necessity.   I’m looking for great taste and healthier options.  So when I ran across Hillshire Farm Naturals™  Lunchmeat, I knew I had a winner!

I made a whole batch of Ham and Cheese Pinwheels for our lunches this week.  And Hillshire Farm Natural Lunchmeat was the star!  Want to know how?

For this recipe I used:

Honey Roasted Ham Hillshire Farm Naturals™ Lunchmeat
6 0z. package cream cheese
2 scallions
large flour tortillas
lettuce

I used the Honey Roasted Ham for this recipe, but they also have Slow Roasted Turkey Breast, Hardwood Smoked Turkey Breast, and Black Forest Ham to choose from at Walmart, packaged in these cool reusable tubs!  Hillshire Farm is known for making lunchtime offerings with farm-inspired craftsmanship and is now taking natural goodness to a new level with the launch of Hillshire Farm Naturals™. And as you can see by the photo above, the price is totally right.

Begin by chopping up the scallions into small pieces.  Add them to softened cream cheese in a medium sized bowl.

Use a mixer to blend the cheese and scallions into a creamy spread.

Lay out a flour tortilla and spread evenly with the cheese mixture.

Roll up the tortilla…

Place toothpicks into the tortilla roll to hold it in place.  I like to place one toothpick per slice.

Slice the tortilla roll and you end up with pretty pinwheels!  You will notice that I made them into 3″ thick slices because I was using them for lunches.  For an alternate idea for your next party, you can cut them into 1″ thick slices for great party appetizers!

This easy lunch idea took about 10 minutes to make and is a huge hit with both of us.  My husband loves the fact that his meal is “portable” and he can even drive while he eats his lunch.  I love the fact that this new  premium quality lunchmeat line of Hillshire Farm Naturals contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, colors or added nitrites/nitrates, except those occurring naturally in celery juice.

Basically, they sure make it easier for us to eat a bit healthier.  And the pinwheels?  Well, they are just fun, right?
