The sunny warm days of summer bring memories of fun kids crafts and fresh brewed iced tea.  With that in mind, I sat down this week and created an easy bracelet using the technique of straw weaving.  This a simple craft that will keep the kids entertained while you sit back and enjoy a cool glass of fresh brewed Bigelow Tea! The best of both worlds!

See how pretty?

And would you believe that you only need some yarn and four straws?  Want to know how it is done?

For this project I used:

Variegated Yarn (any yarn will work, but variegated will give you a cool striped look)
Four straws
Tape

Begin by cutting the straws to the approximate length that you want your bracelet to be.  Cut four pieces of yarn that are at least 8 inches longer than each straw.

Put each length of yarn through a straw.

On one end, tape all four straws together as shown above, and then tie the four pieces of yarn on that end together.

Tie the end of your yarn to the straw on the left, knotting it.

Now we can begin to weave!  Take your yarn and weave over and under the straws.  Beginning at the pink straw, I wove the yarn under the blue, over the green, under the orange.  Then moving back toward the other direction- over the orange, under the green, over the blue, under the pink.  As you work the weave, push each row towards the top.

See what I mean about the variegated yarn thing?  Multiple colors without having to change out the yarn!

Now time for a break.  Let’s mix up a batch of iced tea!

Have you noticed the huge selection of flavored Bigelow Tea at Walmart?  I happened by it the other day and had to load up with some fun flavors.

Tea isn’t just for cool weather, you know.  There is nothing better than fresh brewed iced tea in the summer.   Did you know that Bigelow Tea’s Charleston Tea Plantation is America’s largest working tea garden?  Guests are invited to the Charleston Tea Plantation for weddings, tours and even a variety of music festivals. It’s a great way to experience historic Southern culture and a living piece of American history!

To make a batch of tea, I simply boiled a small pan of water and then let three Bigelow Cinnamon Stick Black Tea Bags seep in it for about 20 minutes.

Remove the tea bags and pour the mixture over ice.  Add a bit of sugar if you like and then enjoy!  Yumm!  We love the Cinnamon Stick tea hot or cold.  The cinnamon gives it a great additional kick.

Now that we have a refreshing drink, let’s finish our project!  Continue weaving until you are nearly to the end of the straws.  Cut your yarn, and then tie it off to the nearest straw- knotting it.

Remove the tape from the top end of the straws and carefully slide the straws out of the yarn weave.

Tie the yarn ends together at the bottom of the weave.

These pretty bracelets take no time to make and are a fun choice for friendship bracelets or just keeping the kids entertained on a warm sunny day!
