Our Featured Guest Star- Scraps and Scribbles

Today, our guest is Courtney from Scraps and Scribbles. Courtney was within driving distance as she lives in the state of Florida, and was able to drive herself up here. Which was rather fortunate as my buddy Tom Selleck and his mustache were tasked with picking up the Kardashian sisters from the airport. Kim, Kourtney and Khloe. Yep, all three of them. It seems that The Today Show is featuring them along with Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Wanting to avoid any type of potential hair pulling, they asked me if I could put the Kardashian sisters in my Green Room.

After his run-in with Lindsay, I think Tom was glad we didn’t end up with her again. But as luck would have it, Lindsay might have been a better deal. Apparently, none of them knew who he was. Even after he specifically mentioned Magnum P.I. and twitched his mustache at them, they sat in the back of the limo texting on their phones and ignored him. Not willing to give up that easily, he asked them if they’d seen the movie, Three Men and a Baby. Three blank stares were sent his way. He twitched his mustache again and was met with a collective eyeroll as they started arguing amongst themselves.

Apparently, Kim is very upset with her latest magazine spread. Because it showed her naked. How the heck was she supposed to know that if she took her clothes off for the photographers that they would publish naked photos? Tom mentioned that in Quigley Down Under, he had to put his foot down on too many scenes with no shirt. How would the audience take him seriously when they were always looking at his abs?

Kim asked him if he could please roll up the privacy divider window. Tom’s mustache is still twitching. I think he has developed a facial tick. Anyway, let’s sit down with Courtney. I’m sure she appreciates the mustache…

Suzy: Tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…

Courtney: My name is Courtney. I’ve been married to my wonderful hubby for 5 years now. We have a 2-year-old little boy whom I have the pleasure of staying home with. We just recently adopted a 10-week old golden retriever puppy. His name is Toby and he has settled right in with out family. I’m a native Floridian and I can honestly say I love my home state. We lived out in Albuquerque, NM for just over 3 years, and while I enjoyed it (I love the friends that we made there and miss them all a lot), I was happy to move back home.

Courtney: We just bought our first house-it’s been really exciting! Aside from the things you’ll find me writing about over at my blog, I love spending time at the beach and catching some waves when I can (which sadly, isn’t that often anymore-the catching waves part, that is.) I’m a music junkie and love all types. Though you wouldn’t know it by looking around my house (which is in a state of chaos right now), I like things organized and actually enjoy it!

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging, and where would you like your blogging to lead?
Courtney: I started Scraps and Scribbles just over a year ago as a creative outlet. I like being able to connect with people and share ideas. I also feel like I’m contributing to something bigger than me. The blog has grown so much this past year and I love it. I’d love for it to continue to grow and reach more people.
Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?
Courtney: Hmmm…my husband gave me a ball python as a gift for our first Valentine’s Day together because he had heard me mention when we were dating that I’d always wanted one. Her name is Kali and we just recently had to find her a new home, which was very hard for me, but I know she’s with someone who will love her and take care of her. Something else-I’ve never been outside the country, with the exception of Canada, but boy, do I want to! The hubs and I have a list of places that we want to visit. If you visit my blog, one of the things you’ll notice is that I love photography. I have a little business that I run-I shoot weddings, families, kids, you name it. I shot my first wedding when I was 19 and got hooked.

Suzy: You blog is a wonderful mix of crafty things, photography, recipes and awesome tips. Can you tell me what inspires your posts?
Courtney: I’m a bit of a scatter-brain, which is why my blog is a mix of a lot of things. It’s basically the resting place for all the things that I love that are running around my head. I really try to make my posts informative and fun, so that my wonderful readers take something away from them. I just write about what’s on my mind, what I’ve been up to and what I think other people would want to know.

Suzy: Since I’m kinda a crafty blog, I have to ask. Are there any particular crafts that you enjoy the most?

Courtney: I really love home decor and clothing projects. It’s such a boost to have someone give you a compliment on something you have made and be able to say, “Thank you! I made that.”

Suzy: I know you have a very busy life. I also know first hand how time-consuming a good blog is. How do you schedule it all in?
Courtney: As anyone who has read my blog lately can tell you, sometimes I don’t. For me, it’s just a matter of setting priorities. My family is my top priority, always. Then come the essential things, like the housework and cooking (cause my family has to eat!) and my school work (I recently went back to school full-time to finish my bachelor’s degree in history.) I try to squeeze blogging in between it all, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I do try to set time aside each day for the things I need and want to get done. Most days I’m successful at that : ) I am very fortunate to have awesome readers who are supportive and who understand that sometimes life just happens.
Suzy: Since I’m also kinda a sitcom blog, my buddy Tom wants to know if you’ve ever met a celebrity in real life. Other than him of course.
Courtney: I have! A couple actually. Bands mostly. I’ve met the lead singer and guitarist for All-American Rejects, the entire Flogging Molly band, the band Lit, Drew from Switchfoot and once, when I was about 7, I met Amy Grant, who was my favorite singer in the whole wide world at that time.

Suzy: This crafty blog community is full of wonderful folks. Can you tell me what blogs inspire you?
Courtney: I love Tatertots and Jello. Jen is so nice and so creative. She’s been very supportive of my little blog, too-she started following me when I only had like 20 followers. I also love UCreate. Becca finds and shares such great projects from all over blogland. They get my creative juices going. And I love your Etsy features-it’s always great to find new shops who make such amazing items.

Suzy: Can you tell us a little about what you are promoting right now? Your photography? Etsy? Linky lists?
Courtney: A bit of my photography and a bit of my shop. I really haven’t done much photo-wise since the move back to FL at the end of ’09 and I miss it. And I’m really trying to get my Etsy shop to take off a bit more. I’ve got a bunch of new items that I’m working on that should be available soon as well as some really sweet vintage items I have recently acquired from my mom.

Courtney, thank you so much for driving up for the interview! Please take a few moments to go check out Courtney’s site, Scraps and Scribbles. She always has something interesting going on there. It is definitely worth the visit!

As for my buddy Tom, well I’m not sure he is doing that well. The Kardashian sisters had made themselves at home in the Green room. When he saw that one of them had hung her coat on his Emmy award, he nearly came unglued. I had to ask his friend, William Shatner to escort the girls to the set of the Today show in his place. They recognized Bill right away from his Priceline ads and followed him excitedly down the hallway as he told them stories of the days when he was a captain of his very own starship.

He and Kim have a lot in common.  He had trouble keeping his shirt on in his younger days too.

Just saying.

And remember, if you and your blog would like to join the party, please email me at myers6281(at)hotmail.com. I am always looking for new guest stars. And just think of all the awe in your friends and family’s eyes when you tell them you were actually on a sitcom! Well, maybe a sitcom in my mind, but let’s not get too literal.
