Barnyard Boogie Our Featured Guest Star- The Little Birdie Blog

Today we are welcoming Rachael from The Little Birdie Blog. Rachael comes to us from the great state of Texas. I’ve never been there personally, but I hear everything is big in Texas. So I asked my buddy Tom Selleck, and his mustache to put together a big Texas welcome for her. Because Tom spent quite a few years starring in Westerns, he felt very qualified to come up with something wonderful to make Rachael feel at home. In fact, he put on his best chaps and cowboy hat and headed off in the limo about 10 minutes ago to pick her up from the airport. I have to tell you, that I was totally impressed. My buddy Tom cleans up nicely.

But as luck would have it, it seems that Oprah is having Justin Bieber on her show this week. Which would totally not be an issue for me if not for the fact that her staff put out a rumor that he would be using my Green Room.

Why, you ask? Well, let’s just say its a little diversion tactic as Mr. Bieber seems to be a huge draw of crazy fanatical fandom. Rather than have her studio surrounded by screaming, hyper-ventilating pre-teens, Oprah sent them my way. Great. Now I have screaming, hyper-ventilating pre-teens and their screeching, crazy-eyed mothers surrounding my studio.

I tried to divert Tom and Rachael at the last moment, but it was too late. The crowd roared to a frenzy as the limo pulled up, the screeching and clamoring became so intense that all my dogs ran with their tails between their legs and hid under the pillows in the couch. Well, the two chihauhaus did anyway. The poor shepherd can only get her front end in there.

Tom naturally assumed the crowd was there to greet him and exited the vehicle gallantly, putting his cowboy hat on and bowing to the crowd. And then there was silence as he and Rachael made their way inside. Knowing that this would only be a short reprieve, I quickly shut the door and threw the deadbolt. I knew we only had moments before they realized that he was just a little too tall to be Bieber. And had a mustache…

Poor Rachel looks a bit frazzled, so I’ll take her in my office for the interview.

Tom, do not open that door! I’m telling you that none of them are familiar with Quigley Down Under. None of them.

Suzy: So Rachael, tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…
Rachael: I am a 29 year old Texas girl lucky enough to have married my best friend. We just had our first baby this summer, a little girl, and her silly antics keep us laughing all the time! The Hubby and I love cooking together (well, mostly he just watches and makes suggestions, haha!) vacationing when we can, and just spending as much time together as possible. He is just as busy as I am running his own business, and being a stay-at-home mom means I’m “on” 24/7 so we really cherish the time we have to spend together.

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging, and where would you like your blogging to lead?

Rachael: I have been blogging personally for about 12 years, but it was always kind of sporadic, and just about me and my life… not so interesting for the masses! 😉 My Little Birdie Blog is just a fledgling, and only about 5 months old. I’m looking forward to it being a creative outlet for all of my projects, new recipes I’m trying out, and to help promote my little etsy shop. I’ve really enjoyed discovering the community of bloggers and readers out there; it’s so much fun meeting people from all over the place who are interested in the same things I am.

Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?

Rachael: Well, even though I live in one of the largest cities in the world, I dream of a sweet little country house miles away from everything. I probably picked the wrong place to live, haha! I am a stay at home mom, even though I went to college and have two diplomas hanging on my wall. There’s just nothing like parenthood, and hubby and I want to be a part of everything for our little girlie! Also, I like peanut butter in my cereal. That’s kind of random, huh?
Suzy: Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are good too….just saying…
Suzy: Since I’m kinda a crafty blog, I have to ask. Are there any particular crafts that you enjoy?

Rachael: I always enjoy the copycat crafts, and things that are useful or make like easier. However, right now I’m really into sewing, so those are the ones that are catching my eye most often. I kind of go through phases though where I’m really stuck on one kind of thing… for instance, around the holidays, I thought for sure my husband was going to move me out into the garage if I made one more wreath to hang in the house!

Suzy: I know you have a very busy life. I also know first hand how time-consuming a good blog is. And you have a successful Etsy business too! How do you schedule it all in?

Rachael: I’m a huge nerd, complete with planners and mechanical pencils with huge erasers, haha! I try to keep everything as organized as possible, and stay accountable to myself because I have a tendency to be a procrastinator. I also have scheduled “theme” days for my blog, which helps me post at least 3 times a week. Before I started doing that, I struggled staying on task with my blog and I didn’t feel like there was anything for my readers to look forward to. As for everything else, I guess it just falls into place. I think there’s a certain amount of obsessiveness that comes with juggling so many things and owning your own business. Add an infant into that mix and let’s just say I’m up before the sun and nearly until midnight every day of the week. But, I wouldn’t change a thing!
Suzy: Since I’m also kinda a sitcom blog, Tom wants to know if you have a favorite movie star. Besides himself, of course…
Rachael: Hmm… I think I would have to go with Tom Hanks. He just seems so normal, like you could run into him at the grocery store or something. I love everything I’ve ever seen him in!
Suzy: This bloggy community is full of wonderful folks. Can you tell me what blogs inspire you?
Rachael: Oh my, there are SO many! Well of course I love yours- you show so much love to the craft and blog community! I also love Tatertots and Jello, Flamingo Toes, UCreate, and about a hundred other crafty blogs. I also have this one that I’ve been reading for years who I met through my personal blog, it’s called ~Woodstock Lily~. She is a huge inspiration to me in so many ways, and always so positive!
Suzy: Can you tell us a little about what you are promoting right now? Any upcoming events? Any new items in your store?
Rachael: Let’s see… I’m launching a new line of baby products to go with my onesies in my etsy shop. Mostly bibs and burpies, but I have been on a fabulous fabric finding quest for the past few months, and I think I have some really cool designs to surprise new mommies with. One thing I hated about shopping for my baby was that everything seemed the same… and pink. These are not the same as everything you see in stores, and I’m very pleased about my pretty pretty fabric choices! They are hitting my store this month. 🙂

Thank you so much for coming by, Rachael! Please be sure to take a few moments and check out Rachael’s blog, The Little Birdie Blog and her Etsy shop, Little Birdy Baby Shop. You will find so many unique, thoughtful items for baby.

Well, Rachael, I have to somehow get you out of here. Tom has been pushing furniture in front of the door for a while now as the deadbolt didn’t hold and we currently have much flailing of arms and screeching as crazy moms are trying to shove their daughters through the crack in the door. Tom is just a bit panicked, I’m afraid. Even his mustache is disheveled.

Luckily, I prepared for such an event years ago and installed an underground tunnel which leads directly to Oprah’s studio. Up until now, it has only been used to bring in her stash of “favorite things” and provide an escape route for Steadman when Oprah’s having a bad day. We’ll go that way.

But you know what is weird? The closer we get to Oprah’s studio, the more I really need that kid’s autograph…it’s like a magnet pulling me closer…and closer.  Something about that hair…

Suzy's Artsy Craftsy Sitcom

And remember, if you and your blog would like to join the party, please email me at myers6281(at)hotmail.com. I am always looking for new guest stars. And just think of all the awe in your friends and family’s eyes when you tell them you were actually on a sitcom! Well, maybe a sitcom in my mind, but let’s not get too literal.
