Our Featured Guest Star- Sew Can Do

Today we are welcoming Cheryl from Sew Can Do.  Cheryl’s blog is a wonderful mix of sewing and family and home-making. She also has a great knack for creating the cutest childrens outfits and hats with a little ingenuity and a ton of talent.

My buddy Tom Selleck and his mustache and I are very excited to meet her.  Actually, I kind of made the mistake of telling Tom that she was a big fan of his.  He pulled out all his Hawaiian shirts and has been trying them on in front of the full length mirror all morning asking me if this one looks better than that one, or does this color bring out his eyes, or should he go with more pattern or less pattern, and does this one make his butt look big?

I have to say that from my own personal experience, the only thing that makes your butt look big is your big butt.  But that’s a whole other issue.

Anyway, in his excitement, he totally forgot to let me know that my Green Room is being lent out this week for an after the wedding gala.  Apparently, the Royal Wedding was so extravagant, that the party still hasn’t ended.  And Madonna asked if I could spare my Green Room so that she could have some friends over to watch the wedding again on the “telly” and gossip about the clothing choices and who they think should date Prince Harry.  (Run Harry!)  And most likely to gripe to anyone who will listen that she wasn’t on the invitation list.  Being British and all.
So, I was a bit surprised when my Green Room started swiftly filling up with all sorts of British wannabees wearing ridiculous hats sitting in odd angles on the sides of their heads, and talking in terrible British accents.  And Madonna who is obviously British (by way of Detroit) has not only mastered a British accent, but also a taste for the local cuisine.  So a full buffet has been set up with all kinds of British fare including biscuits, tripe, tea and scones, fish and chips, bangers and mash, and a dessert of Spotted Dick.

I’m totally not going to go there….

Anyway, lets take a few moments and pull Cheryl away from the celebration and Tom’s very loud Hawaiian shirt, and start the interview!

Yes, Tom- it is loud.
Suzy: Tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…
Cheryl:  I’m a stay-at-home mom of 3 who’s a self-taught crafter and homeschooling teacher to my kiddos.  I’m a bit into eco-friendly, being thrifty and always on the lookout for unique things.  I love all things British, gardening and reading mysteries and biographies.

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging, and where would you like your blogging to lead?
Cheryl:  I started blogging about 2.5yrs ago when I first was learning to sew.  I wanted to make a sort of journal of my adventures & progress and connect with other people interested in the same things.  I never dreamed it would become what it has!

Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?
Cheryl:  I couldn’t sew AT ALL 3 yrs ago.  Not even a straight line.  I speak French.  I am not a morning person no matter how hard I try to be.  I want to be neat and organized, but it’s a constant struggle.

Suzy: Your blog is a wonderful mix of crafty ideas.  Do you have a blog schedule where you post certain things on certain days, or do you just post what is in your head that day?  For new bloggers out there, do you have any helpful hints regarding content?
Cheryl:  Thanks so much!  I have my Craftastic Link Party on Mondays and try to post projects I’m excited about sharing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I find it important to keep the content relevant and be consistent with posting.  Definitely have a main theme or it’s confusing to readers what the blog is about or if it’s of interest to them.

Suzy:  Since I’m kinda a crafty blog, I have to ask. Are there any particular crafts that you enjoy doing the most?
Cheryl:  Sewing is my favorite because there are so many different things I can make, but I also love making edible crafts.

Suzy: I know you have a very busy life.  I also know first- hand how time-consuming a good blog is.  How do you schedule it all in?
Cheryl:  It’s tough.  I won’t lie.  Homeschooling two kids and taking care of a baby, plus my business doesn’t leave much free time.  I usually work on the blog first thing in the morning and at night when there’s less distraction. I spend time on projects whenever I get a little window of free time, like when the baby is napping or if grandma can help out for a little bit.  I’d love to have a more organized schedule, but life definitely revolves around the kids.

Suzy: Since I’m also kinda a sitcom blog, my buddy Tom wants to know if you have a favorite tv program?  Other than anything starring him of course.
Cheryl:  I am a big Magnum PI fan.  My sister even dressed as him for Halloween one year (complete with wig and mustache)!  If I had to pick just one favorite, it would probably be Leverage.

Suzy: The blog community is full of wonderful folks.  Can you tell me some of the blogs out there that you like to read? (They don’t have to be crafty blogs).
Cheryl:  I have a huge list of blogs I follow – I wish I had more time to read them.  I do have a few favorites: The Decorated CookieNip It In The Bud,CraftGossipThe Crafty CrowBird’s PartyFilth WizardryMod Podge Rocks.  If I named all of the ones I enjoy it would be pages long!

Suzy: Can you tell us a little about what you are promoting right now?  Etsy? Linky lists?  Giveaways?
Cheryl:  A little of everything.  I’ve got my weekly Craftastic Monday link party for showing off crafty goodies and my on-going Kids Can Craft party for projects kids can do.   That party is open all year long so people can link up anytime and have a place to go when they need ideas for fun things to keep the kiddies busy.

Cheryl: I plan to have a few giveaways in the month of May for some crafty supplies, fabrics and patterns.  I’ve also got some new little reversible dresses, sewing patterns and fun kid’s hats in my Etsy shop, The Green Hedgehog.

Cheryl, thank you so much for stopping by!  Please take a few moments and swing by Cheryl’s site, Sew Can Do and see what she has going on.  And don’t forget to also stop by her shop The Green Hedgehog to see what cute things she has come up with.

Now, let’s get back to the party!  Cheryl, since we apparently don’t have on the proper attire, Tom has taken the liberty to make us both some fancy hats.  Who knew he was that good with a glue gun, dryer lint, and paper plates?

And I know enough British vocabulary to get us by.  Blimey! I’m awfully gobsmacked about this wedding fascination!  It’s been nearly a fortnight!  But it looks like a frightfully jolly old time.  I’m feeling a bit peckish aren’t you?  Let’s go get some afters!  Pip, pip and Cheerio! Y’all.

Just let me do the talking.

Oh, and stay away from the spotted dick.  Because I honestly don’t know what it is.  And I really don’t recommend googling it.  I found a whole world of things I’d rather forget…

Just saying.
