The Sitcom’s New Summer Schedule!

This weekend was the long awaited family Luau, a gathering put on by my sister and her husband every year.  And like always, she offered many good natured competitions, solely put together for the fun and camaraderie that it provides.  Competitions in previous years included treasure hunts, eating contests, hoola hoop contests, dancing, you name it.  I’m always one to turn down family competitions as they seem too similar to the “team building” exercises that I’m often subjected to during corporate events.  So this year, I was fully prepared to turn her down again.  And to my credit, I did turn down the belly flopping contest.  Because, well, I don’t belly flop.  And we’ll leave it at that.

But when she offered up a fruit carving contest, I couldn’t control myself.  So you saw my practice run a few weeks ago- my Carved Fruit Tutorial.  For the big event, I carved up a full sized watermelon.  Halfway through cutting up that huge watermelon, I decided that this craft was really not my cup of tea.  I was sticky from head to toe, and so were all my kitchen counters, my kitchen table, the kitchen floor and two of my dogs.

My sister-in-law was my only competition.  But a formidable one at that.  Check out this amazing reef that she made out of carved veggies!  See, the craftiness runs in the family!  We both won some great prizes that my sister put together.

The Sitcom has lots of new things planned for the month of July.  Starting July 6, my buddy Tom Selleck, his mustache and I will be going international with our Featured Guest Stars.  I will be teaming up with Jill from Creating My Way to Success out of Australia, Yaga from The Shiny Bubble out of Switzerland, and Adepeju from Peekadot out of Africa, and possibly a few other international blog stars. We will each be interviewing bloggers from our side of the world and linking all the interviews together in one fabulous blog hop!  Tom and I have been renovating the Green Room in preparation for this big transition all week long.  Please be sure to stop by and check out the changes!
Mid July, I will be starting a beginners quilting series.  I am teaming up with Patricia at Discount Sewing Supply to not only offer a great deal on Fabric Jelly rolls, but a tutorial series on a quilt designed by me utilizing a unique pack of pre-cut jelly roll strips put together exclusively for my Sitcom readers.  I will be teaching some simple tricks that create a fabulous easy to put together design to incorporate into an awesome lap quilt.

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to quilt, but were afraid to try, this is the tutorial for you.

And finally, for a touch of humor in the news, check out my latest article on Technorati, “Ugly People Need Not Apply”. A humorous take on an already ridiculous news story.

So, stay tuned for some awesome summer programming on The Sitcom!!  No summer re-runs here!  Just quality programs.  CBS and ABC- you can eat your hearts out!
