Our Guest this week is from Texas, USA!

Today we are welcoming Kristy from Bombastitch.  Kristy is an amazing cross-stitch pattern designer who currently has a book available at Barnes and Noble and a wonderful Etsy shop full of patterns, kits and finished works.  This is not your grandmother’s cross-stitch.  Kristy pulls her ideas from modern pop culture and her patterns are both humorous and unique.

My buddy Tom Selleck, his mustache and I are very excited to have Kristy visit our Green Room.  Unfortunately, our Green Room is needed for an emergency meeting of the Beyonce Fan Club.  Seems that there was a stir last week when Beyonce appeared on a talk show and her “baby bump” seemed to deflate when she sat down.  Now all the conspiracy theorists have decided that her bump is fake and that maybe she has a surrogate involved so that she doesn’t “ruin” her body.

The meeting of her fan club began quite calmly, with members discussing how best to truly show the world that Beyonce has a real baby in there.  Being that Tom is an expert and all due to his stint on “Three Men and a Baby”, they were happy to include him in their discussion.  Many excellent ideas were tossed back and forth, including having her sonograms published in book form, giving the newspapers access to her shopping list and making sure there was plenty of pickles and ice-cream involved, and convincing Beyonce to wear a bikini for the rest of her pregnancy.

Unfortunately, the conspiracy theorists found out about the meeting and are now picketing outside with signs stating things like, “Fake Bump!”, “Pillows are not Children!”, “Boycott Deflating Babies”, “Bumps don’t Fold!” and “Eat Mor Chikin”.  Oh wait, that last one was the dude in the cow suit from the Chik-fil A across the street.

Anyway, it was all I could do to get poor Kristy across the picket line and into my office for the interview.  That Chik-fil A cow is pretty darn intimidating.

Suzy: So Kristy, tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…
Kristy:  I’m a stay at home mom to two English Bulldogs and wife to my husband of 18 years.  We recently moved from Chicago, IL to Austin, TX.  Currently, my other hobbies are on hold while I work on my cross-stitch projects.  Normally, I enjoy needle felting, candle making, baking, home renovations, etc…but it’s nearing the holidays and I’m working full-time on filling my Etsy shop and shipping items to the shops that I sell my kits and finished pieces on consignment.

Suzy: How long have you been stitching and how do you come up with your fabulous ideas?
Kristy: I have been stitching for about 30 years. I design images that make me laugh or things I’d want to display. I love movies, tv shows and pop culture. Whenever I have an idea, I jot it down in my notebook and refer to those notes when I have an opportunity to create a new pattern.

Suzy: Can you tell us about your new book?
Kristy: Zombie Cross-Stitch: 12 Patterns to Raise the Dead was released about a year ago. I’m super excited to work on another book… so if anyone is looking for a pattern maker, let me know (wink wink nudge nudge) 😉

Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?
Kristy: Gosh, I’m pretty much an open book… perhaps most folks don’t know that I’m a complete night owl. I typically sleep from 4 am – 11 am (or noon). Other than that… I’m heavily tattooed by my exceptionally talented husband, tattoo artist – Donnie Kizzee. He inspires me every day.

Suzy: You are very successful on Etsy.  Can you give us some marketing pointers that you might have learned along the way that might help promote our sites and stores?
Kristy: Patience is very important.  My sales didn’t pick up until I was on Etsy for about a year.  Make what you love, not what you “think” others will love.  Let folks know about your creations on Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, Flickr, etc.  After determining your niche, advertise on blogs that are a good fit.  Promote your site at craft fairs.

Suzy: This crafty blog community is full of wonderful folks. Can you tell me what blogs inspire you? (They don’t have to be craft related).
Kristy: I read Suzy’s Sitcom, Craft Gossip, The Food Network, Martha Stewart Crafts, Star Wars Fan Works, and Formula 1 Blog.

Suzy: Can you tell us a little about what you are promoting right now?
Kristy: Currently I’m promoting my Sugar Skull kits and patterns. I have a series of 5 original designs that are perfect for beginners and seasoned veteran stitchers alike.

Kristy, thank you so much for coming all this way for an interview!  Please take a few moments to check out Kristy’s site, Bombastitch. You will find lots of great cross-stitch patterns, kits and finished projects there.  Her kits are priced great and include everything that you would need to complete the cross-stitch pattern, including a hoop, needle and all floss. And they will surely put a smile on your face.

And now we’d best go rescue poor Tom who is doing his best to keep the fan club and the picketers separate.  Seems that Beyonce herself showed up and caused quite a stir as she crossed the picket line in a large maternity dress which appeared to be covering a bump the size of a two year old child.  The poor woman is only five months along and I have a true concern for her previously stretch-mark-free stomach.  But that is just between you and me.

Of course, this brought in the paparazzi, including three local news teams, a crew from the National Enquirer, a police brigade, and two news helicopters that were redirected from less important news at the Capitol building.  Considering the importance of this news story, well I certainly am not surprised.  So important in fact, that they even quit following Kim Kardashian around for the day.

Don’t know about you, but the Chik-fil A cow and I were pretty darn impressed about that.  And speaking of chicken biscuits, come on Kristy, lets go across the street and get some lunch.  I TIVO’ed the evening news so we won’t miss anything of importance…
