Interview with Kim from “A Girl and a Glue Gun”

Over the past few years, I’ve done quite a few interviews with some awesome crafty bloggers.  My interviews were always a bit unusual, as I had my imaginary buddy, Tom Selleck and his friends to help out in the interview “green room”.

Some of those bloggers are still going strong.  Originally posted in December of 2010- my interview with Kim from A Girl and a Glue Gun

Today, we are privileged to have with us Kim from A Girl and a Glue Gun. Now, Kim has traveled all the way from the state of Idaho to join us.  Tom Selleck, his mustache, and I are very excited to meet her.

My Green Room was rented out this week to Jeff Probst and the cast of Survivor for tribal council. Apparently, they are having some technical difficulties on the set and needed a back-up location. I was cool with that until I saw how much crap they’ve brought in to make the place look like it is in the middle of a jungle. You can’t hardly find your way around with all the palm fronds, coconut trees and fake rocks and things. They apparently piped in jungle sounds because I can hear monkeys. Ha!!…

Hey, wait, what the heck is that!!

Jeff, is that a snake??

Okay, wait one cotton-pickin’ minute here. According to paragraph seven, section 12, line 18 of your contract, no live snakes allowed! You see, I know this because I had to add that line to the contract several years ago when Britney Spears left her white python in here. By the time we found it, it had eaten two of my assistants and my favorite glue gun. And let me tell you, that glue gun was hard to replace. It’s bad enough that I had to bend the rules of the fire marshall and allow all those torches and the campfire in here. And those better not be live monkeys….Jeff??

Come on Kim, lets go to my office for the interview while Jeff and Tom try to catch that snake. Jeff- you’ve got ten minutes to get those animals out of here or I’ll make you do tribal council at the IHOP.  The tribe has spoken.

Sigh…

Suzy: So Kim, tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies.

Kim: …I’m a cancer, I like long walks on the beach and candle light dinners….. Not really.  I like the smell of magic markers and I have a fetish with socks….I have a husband. (I would say LOVE OF MY LIFE but I don’t want to make anyone feel like their marriages aren’t up to par.) I have three kids that I love and adore and are probably going to be in time-out until they are 24.  My hobbies include: crafting, movies, books, baths, sweets, and sleeping. (And sometimes I multi-task and do three of these at a time!)

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging, and where would you like your blogging to lead? I love your blog name, by the way. I kinda picture you with a holster on your side, glue gun ready to go.

Kim:  Oh, yes a bedazzled holster…I was crafting regardless of a blog or not…so I thought why not…It just involves taking more pictures and putting it online.! I had a year before I started a craft blog. I kinda just got hooked…I liked writing and loved having a little portfolio of my work….I would always forget to take pictures of something and then sell it or give it as a gift and I would forget how I made it or what it looked like!

Kim: Where I want my blogging to lead? I want to be a billionaire so freaking bad… I want to have a TV show like Martha, a talk show like Oprah, a fabric line like Amy Butler, a book deal like someone that has an awesome book deal, and a craft store called Kimbo’s crafts (like Jo-Ann’s but funkier) no not really, I really just want people to say, hey, loved that thing you made on your blog. Made one for myself! That’s honestly the ultimate satisfaction (and when they can’t make it: there is also sweet happiness when I sell something).

Kim’s Awesome Menu Board

Suzy:  You have tons of stuff going on your site all the time. Tons of crafts other folks made, and plenty of projects and tutorials of your own featured. You are pretty darn cool considering you don’t even like pie…Who or what inspires you?

Kim:  I know. I’m tired. And pie sucks. Really. I don’t understand the love that surrounds pie. I’m not even a huge cake fan. Give me a bag of choc chips…happy for hours… (okay, I could probably eat a bag in 10 maybe 15 minutes) but that isn’t what we really are talking about is it? Inspiration: I find it everywhere…..Remember my smashed penny necklace?

Kim:  My sister (Hi Mallory!) had taken my nephews down and put some on the railroad tracks and was showing me them…next thing you know….necklace. I actually always get my “great” ideas at the time when you are in bed and trying to fall asleep and turn your mind off…It’s probably cause that’s the only time that I have a little bit of sanity…without someone crying or whining that someone hit someone else, or Mickey mouse clubhouse going off in the background, or the sound a toy machine gun cause I am getting “killed” and have to play dead or my husband calling up asking if I will bring him a pop, or me saying a bad word cause I burned myself with a glue gun ………again and…..

Suzy: You seem to do a bit of everything, craft-wise. What are your favorite things to create?
Kim:  My favorite all time thing to make is the activity felt mats.

Kim: I think they are so fun and you can make them specific for whoever you are making them for….but honest, I love it all. Sometimes I love sewing, then I move to painting and then onto jewelry then scrapbooking….I never stay to long or I get sick of it.

Suzy:  Please take a moment to stop by Kim’s site, A Girl and a Glue Gun.  Amongst all the crafty stuff, tutorials, inspiration, you will find lots of fun and quirkiness.  And I do likes me some quirkiness.  Check out her recent Candy Corn-Gate.  You will laugh.  I promise.  Kim also has a great Etsy Shop that you don’t want to miss.

So, Kim.  Shall we brave the Green Room?  There has been a huge ruckus going on for the past ten minutes and I just heard a crash.  I’m almost afraid to look. In fact, is that a fire truck pulling up?  Crap.  Looks like I’m going to owe Tom- big time.  Both he and his mustache just ran by with my fabric stash.

Dude is kinda awesome sometimes.
