Yarn U- A Review

As a knitter and crocheter, I’m always on the lookout for ways to make yarn selection a bit easier.  There are thousands of options out there and frankly, you can pay as much as you want to for a skein of yarn.  But when it comes to higher dollar yarn, how do you know it is worth the money spent until after you have made the purchase and tried to work with it?  Have you ever bought yarn that just didn’t work with your project?  Or purchased over the internet to discover that the yarn just doesn’t feel the way you would like?

Now there is an app available for iphones that will make you a yarn “professional” in minutes called Yarn U!  The app is designed by an ardent knitter and crocheter named Mary Beth Klatt who knows through experience what questions you might have before each yarn purchase, which makes this app all the more user friendly.

The app is extremely easy to learn, even for technology challenged folks like myself.  Simply download the app to your phone, and search for the yarn in question, and you are then presented with everything you could want to know about that yarn, including photos of the yarn, prices, locations to purchase, good points and bad points, hyperlinks and links to video and free online patterns.

With more than 2,460 stunning images of finished projects designed by award-winning knitting gurus such as Veronik Avery, Amy Butler, Army of Knitters, Pam Allen, Jenny Watson, Jane Ellison, Norah Gaughan, Jared Flood, Nancy Bush, Louisa Harding, Wendy Bernard, Cirilia Rose and Debbie Bliss, this on-the-go app will instantly provide information for more than 260 yarns.

I spent quite a bit of time looking through Yarn U‘s vast compilation of yarn knowledge.  There is a ton of info packed into this little app, and at the low cost of $2.99, I can totally recommend it as a great idea for a stocking stuffer for your favorite knitter or crocheter.  Or even as a great little tool to download for yourself!
