Make something amazing with Recycled Bottles!

Do you like to craft with recycled items?  I have huge collections of glass bottles in my storage because I never know what might come to mind.  And there is nothing better than free craft supplies!  These glass Snapple bottles got a whole new life with a bit of yarn and decoupage –  Yarn Wrapped Bottle Art!

A bright sunny project!  This decoupage method gives the illusion of hand painted flowers.

Let’s brighten up the windowsill with some yarn wrapped bottles with a sunflower theme!  Want to know how?

 For this project I used:

3 Glass Snapple Bottles (cleaned)
Yarn in three colors
Decorative Napkins
Mod Podge (Matte)
White glue
Silk Flowers

Start at the bottom of the bottle, adding white glue and then wrapping it with yarn.  Add the glue to a section at a time and wrap the yarn as evenly as possible.

Keep wrapping and gluing the yarn until you get all the way to the top.

I used an off white yarn, bright green, and blue.  Allow the bottles to dry before the next step.

Select a pattern from some designer napkins.  I found these pretty sunflower ones at the grocery store.  Tear out what will fit nicely on your bottle.  It is important to tear rather than cut, as the design will blend better onto your bottle.  The napkin has several layers of paper.  Separate them and use only the top thin layer of paper.

Paint the section of the bottle that will have the design on it with a good coating of Mod Podge, and then press the design onto it.  Coat both the design and the rest of the bottle with Mod Podge.

Here is the white bottle sitting to dry.  The yarn will soak up the Mod Podge, so drying time is about 5 hours.

I found that the lighter colored yarn had a neater effect, but they all came out pretty.  They give the effect that the sunflowers were actually hand painted onto the wrapped bottles.

The final touch was to add pretty ribbons to the tops of the jars and add some silk flowers.

I love the bright sunny look of my new window sill display!

I’ve never tried to decoupage over yarn before. The effect is beautiful.
