Game Day Pep-Corn Snack Recipe with REESE’S® Minis!

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s college football season, and if you are a fan of football, then I bet you already have some great gatherings lined up.  And that means you need to have some great snacks available.  Because who the heck watches football without snacks in hand?  For that matter, Reality TV is pretty awesome when served with snacks…seriously.

The folks at Dollar General have tons of great priced snacks, perfect for game night or Toddlers and Tiaras; whichever floats your boat! They even have the ingredients for this awesome batch of “Game Day Pep-Corn” Snack, which includes popcorn, peanuts, and REESE’S® Minis! Aside from stacking up some snacks, you may also want to place your money on your favorite teams through sites like Betwiz.

See, even my buddy Marvin the Mummy is a fan!  REESE’S® brand is the Official Candy Partner of NCAA Football and they have all kinds of free downloadable features available on scorewithreeses.com, including great snack recipes!  So, I decided to put together this Game Day Pep-Corn Snack for the hubby and me to enjoy.  You see it really hasn’t been a great week here at chez Sitcom, and we need a little PEP.  Get it?

Sitcom household craziness this week includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ever have one of those days when the normal amount of makeup is not enough and you have to double up on it in order to get from super scary status to just plain scary?  No?  Really?  Quit making me feel inadequate.  I don’t know if I slept on my face or what but frankly, I scared myself this morning.
  • Even the dogs are afraid.  Very afraid.  I’m thinking I might want to work on getting more beauty sleep.  Of course, the husband has to chime in, “It’s too late for that!”   Smarty pants.  One of these days he’s gonna ask me to trim the hair in his ears and I’m going to tell everyone about it on my blog.

Oops, did I just say that out loud?

  • Speaking of the dogs, apparently one of them has gotten lazy.  Did you know that if you walk through the kitchen in your bare feet, you are 96% more likely to step in poop than if you have shoes on?
  • Did you know that percentage drastically increases to 99.9% at 2:00 in the morning?  It’s a proven fact.  One that I have spent the last few months researching.
  • Bet you didn’t know that I was such a thorough scientist.  A job that I would love to pass on to the husband.  Who is currently still chuckling over the my most recent episode.

I’m sterilizing my toes as I speak.

  • The husband has a new obsession for auction shows and spent the entire evening last night watching a car auction on television.  Yep, I know that I totally have no right to complain as I regularly subject him to reality shows such as Toddlers and Tiaras and Bridezillas.  But that is true quality reality TV, I tell you!
  • Anyway, those shows are at least more entertaining than the constant hummuna hummuna hummuna that I had to listen to all night long as each car was driven through the auction and the camera guy took lots of close-up shots of interesting things such as hubcaps and engine compartments.  Seriously. And if you were lucky to catch it, every now and then he would open the door so that you could check out the floor mats.

Stimulating.

Reese's snack recipe popcorn peanuts

Today, we are looking at a long rainy Saturday, so in an attempt to put a yummy spin on it and bring myself out of my little funk, I decided to create a batch of Game Day Pep-Corn!  Want to know how?

For this recipe I used:

8 cups Clover Valley® popped popcorn
3/4 cup Clover Valley® Party peanuts, divided
1-1/3 cups (8-oz. pkg.) REESE’S® Minis, divided

Reese'sReese's

(All these ingredients were quick and easy to find at Dollar General and priced right too!)

Start by lining a tray or cookie sheet with wax paper or foil. Spread the popcorn and 1/2 cup peanuts on the prepared tray.

Cut 1 cup REESE’S® Minis Peanut Butter Cups into halves.  What I particularly loved about these minis is that I don’t have to take the time to unwrap each one!  You can almost make this snack during commercials!

Place the minis in a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute; stir vigorously. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating until the candy is melted and the mixture is blended when stirred.

Drizzle the chocolate mixture over popcorn and nuts.  Refrigerate 30 minutes or until the chocolate mixture is firm.

Make individual servings and top with the remaining 1/4 cup peanuts and remaining 1/3 cup REESE’S Minis Peanut Butter Cups.

This yummy recipe makes about 8-1/2 cups popcorn!  Perfect for a long rainy afternoon!

So things aren’t so terrible around here and as soon as I get my feet totally sterilized, I’m going to sit down to an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras with a bowl of Game Day Pep-Corn!  I’m telling you nothing beats a good temper tantrum by a four year old in a wig, fake teeth and lipstick.

I’m just saying.
