Our Featured Guest Star- Creative Mind

Today we are welcoming Khadija from Creative Mind.  Khadija has a heck of a plane flight for this interview.  She comes all the way from Pakistan!  Her wonderful site is a great mix of crafty ideas and many of them are so intricate and new to me that it definitely took a second look.   Khadija has a great eye for detail and her tutorials will walk you through even the more difficult crafts that she specializes in. She should be here any moment.
In the meantime, I managed to get a great deal on Oprah’s set furniture.  Ya know, some of that stuff was older than me.  She offered it as a package deal, all or nothing.  That Oprah is a business woman through and through.  Not one to try and haggle with the master of hagglers, I went ahead and made an offer.  And was totally surprised when I actually won the bid.  Turns out the only other bidder was Dr. Phil.  Seems she caught him in a master plan to take over her show, all her guest stars, her makeup crew, her stylist and even had his eye on Gayle.  But never underestimate the power of Oprah.  Her people have their own people.  And those people have people who stay on top of these things. Dr. Phil never had a chance.
Not only did he lose the bid, but I believe that he was last seen dropped off from a plane somewhere in Siberia.  Don’t worry, though.  Oprah will send a search team to find him before the winter sets in.  She’s thoughtful like that.
So Tom and I are smack in the middle of renovations here at Suzys Sitcom.  Oprah was sweet enough to throw in all her boxes of rejected books of the month.  But in the midst of all that, I got plenty of 70’s era furniture for my Green Room.  A little worn, and weary, but good furniture just the same.  Well, all except for that couch.  It never quite recovered from Tom Cruise’s “jump fest”.
Oh, and look.  She even included Steadman’s recliner, with Steadman still in it.  Apparently, he refused to give it up, so Oprah just threw him in the truck with it.
Well, at least he is quiet. In fact, come to think of it, I’ve never heard him utter a word.  I guess Oprah did all the talking for him.  It might be difficult putting him in a new environment.  We are allowed to talk here.  So I had Tom put him and his chair in the corner out of the way along with a box of rejected Oprah books to keep him entertained.  We’ll have to break him in slowly.  We don’t want to startle him.

So, lets take a few moments to sit down with Khadija, who looks quite well rested considering her long journey here.

Suzy: Tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…
Khadija: I am Khadija Kiran the only owner of Creative Mind.  I am a Muslim girl and living in the capital city of Pakistan. I am a single girl and a lovely, stubborn and naughty youngest family member at home. I have two brothers and one sister. My parents are the Best Parents of the World!  I am so lucky to have them,(mostly, I say to my parents that you are so lucky that you have ME..hahaha)!

Khadija: I am a student of university, and I’m going to be an Educationist.  I’m currently on my second quarter. Previously, I completed PGD-TAF (Post graduate Diploma in Textile and Fashion Designing).
Khadija: I love arts and crafts.  Re-use and recycling is my passion.  My extra time from studies is mostly spent in making creative things and their tutorials for my blog. I am not interested much in sewing or knitting, and I rarely watch tv or movies, because I am a busy student and then crafter…

Suzy: Since Tom is pouting now, lets just say that if you had the time to watch tv, you’d definitely be watching his show, right?  Ha!

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging and where would you like your blogging to lead?
Khadija: About a year ago, my brother created a blog for me and I started blogging.  I was not familiar with the ABC’s of blogging, so I published 10 or 15 posts a day.  At the beginning, I posted my textile designing projects randomly. My purpose was to show others about my creations. With the passage of time, I understand a little more about blog matters and decided to share some tutorials of my Creativity with my readers. Like embroidery and some other techniques. A lot of people were not familiar with some of my techniques, so I receive nice feedback. My Mehndi designs are totally my own patterns. I never use any pattern or inspiration. My mind is the biggest factory of designs..after all I am a designer.. 🙂

Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?

Khadija: There are some facts which mostly people don’t know.. I have no Camera. I always use my cell phone camera for tutorials. All my blog tutorials are done with my lovely cell phone camera! I am an extraordinary shy girl..that’s why my face is not anywhere on the web..hmmm. Nobody around me knows about my blog. Just one friend from my university and my family members know about it. I want to tell others, but I feel shy about what others will say..? My mom always says that I am wasting time due to blogging, but on the other hand I have a follower who is a Doctor also. She said don’t stop blogging, it’s a relaxing activity. The another interesting thing is that I am only known as Khadija on the internet. My whole family and friends call me by saying Kiran..;) But on the world wide web I thought to tell everybody my first name..because I like it most…

Suzy: Since I’m kinda a crafty blog, I have to ask. Are there any particular crafts that you enjoy the most?
Khadija: I enjoy doing embroidery and paper crafts a lot, but i can’t manage my time for embroidery projects. Recycling is also my passion. I love DIY projects. It is a relaxing activity to make something yourself 🙂

Suzy: I do love your detailed embroidery work, batik fabric and silk painting! Did you learn these yourself, or were the techniques passed down to you? You have amazing technique!

Khadija: I learned embroidery, silk painting, batik, paintings, mixed media, sketching, weaving, tie n dye, screen printings and so many other paints and interior work during my PGD-TAF. It was a diploma, but I learned soooo many things of my hobby. I chose this study just for fulfilling my hobby needs, not for joining it as a career..so i learned techniques that I now share with my readers.

Suzy: Do you have a particular schedule for your blog, or do you post what interests you at the time? Can you give any new bloggers out there some pointers?
Khadija: Being a busy student, sometimes I can’t post twice a week. My goal is to post two tutorials every week, but I am not a very regular blogger. My studies matter a lot to me. Sometimes I write randomly about my studies or life. Well, I am not in a very good position to share pointers with new bloggers, but I think it’s very important to have fine signed images of your work on your blog and share your work via blog parties. It is great for showing others. And try to write comments to others as it will show your love for other crafters.

Suzy: This blog community is full of wonderful folks. Can you tell me what blogs inspire you? (They do not have to be craft blogs)

Khadija: This question is very tough. I have followed soooo many great blogs, that I can’t single out any ONE..everybody is doing super nice work. Really great ladies..how i can choose anyone..!!! I think the whole internet is an inspiration basically ..

Suzy: Can you tell us a little about what you are promoting right now? Anything coming up that you want us to know about?
Khadija: I am trying to promote my creativity and also I need some sponsors, because I have a little goal in my mind (nobody know this) that I want to be able to pay my one semester fee due to my blog. But unfortunately I can’t find any good advertisement till now..kinda sad. I want to tell my parents that I am not wasting time on my blog. I am trying to achieve something for my studies..well let’s hope for the best about any upcoming sponsors.

Thank you so much, Khadija for stopping by to visit!!  Please take a few moments to swing by Khadija’s blog, Creative Mind.  I’m betting you will find some amazing unique crafting ideas! Khadija is an up and coming artist and a wonderful crafter!

Well, I’d better get back in the Green Room.  Apparently there has been a misunderstanding.  Another truckload has pulled into my lot from Oprah’s studio and this one is full of all kinds of odds and ends.  Not that I don’t appreciate the thought and all, but I really have no use for all of Oprah’s skinny jeans, her hair and makeup trailer, and the koala bear that she picked up in Australia.  No, it’s not a stuffed bear.  We are talking Oprah here.  And it is currently way too close to my National Enquirer collection for comfort.  Hopefully, it’s not paper trained…
