Eating healthier can be difficult when you carpool and leave the house at 5:00 AM each day! Seriously. Fortunately, in one of my recent trips to Safeway, I ran across Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder, and a whole new world of high protein breakfast smoothies came to be!
Leaving the house each morning at the crack of dawn with an hour long commute means that the hubby and I will often find ourselves at the quickest drive-through, looking for something to tide us over. Coffee and donuts was beginning to be the go-to breakfast. Both of our waistlines were beginning to suffer.
We are trying to make healthier choices, so when I ran across Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder, it occurred to me that I just might have a new plan! The cool thing about Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder is that it is easy to make, contains 21 vitamins and minerals, 13 grams of protein and as much calcium as a 6 oz cup of yogurt!
So much better for us than that coffee and donut!
I purchased the Rich Milk Chocolate flavor and came up with a delicious Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Banana Smoothie that both of us just love. And I thought I’d share the simple recipe with you, because even without an hour commute, this is so much tastier than a donut!
Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Banana Smoothie
Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder (2 envelopes)
Two bananas (frozen)
16 oz. low fat milk
2 tbsp. Peanut Butter
(This recipe makes two servings!)
Begin by cutting the bananas into slices. We are using frozen bananas because it give the smoothie a thicker consistency, almost like a milk shake! (Bananas take a bit of time to freeze, so remember to stick them in the freezer the night before).
Ralph likes bananas. Fortunately for me, I never have to worry about one hitting the floor….
Add 16 oz. of cold low fat milk to your blender.
Add in the Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Powder, sliced bananas, and peanut butter. Blend thoroughly. Yumm!
And there you have it! Two yummy thick smoothies! Perfect for a quick breakfast on the road!
We are loving this new addition to our morning routine. And the fun part is that if we get tired of the concoction above, well there are a ton of other smoothie recipes at the Carnation Breakfast Essentials® website!
Here are just a few of my favorites!
