Friday’s Craft Idea – Snowflake Stones with Bling
What is more appropriate for this time of year than a little bit of snowflake bling? This craft idea occurred to me the other day when I was trying to come up with a snowflake themed centerpiece for my table. Yep, I really need to get a life. But humor me here.
And that is what my husband did as we looked for the perfect smooth river rocks at the Home Depot. I have to give him credit. He doesn’t bother to even question me anymore. River rock I wanted, and river rock I got.
For this project I used:
Several handfuls of river rock
Acrylic paint in shades of gray and white
Stick-on craft jewels
Matte Mod Podge
In order to get a good contrast for my snowflakes, Paint the stones with a several different shades of gray. Some are lighter and some are almost black. After they dry, begin painting snowflakes with white. Since every snowflake is different, begin with a six pointed star and then add details.
Be creative with your snowflakes. Some examples of different patterns are above. All began with the simple six pointed star.
To seal and protect, add a coat of matte Mod Podge.
Then add the bling! I used white crystals and light blue crystals for this project. These can be found in the scrapbooking section of your craft store.
Pretty, aren’t they?
This project is great for a centerpiece or bit of snowflake decor. Put them in a bowl to display and they will definitely be a conversation starter.
