Create a Cute Muppet Tic-Tac-Toe Game!

I love the Muppets. Yep, I know I’m a bit old for those things, but sometimes you just need a breath of fresh air. Maybe I never truly grew up, or maybe I just need a Muppet fix now and then. Create a unique Muppet Tic Tac Toe game from recycled jar lids! But if you don’t have the time to do so, you can quickly play other fun games on your phone through pages like wsmcasino.com.

Many years ago, I did a project with baby food jars- Baby Food Jar Christmas Tree.  In order to make my tree, I had to collect baby food jars.  I had quite a few left over that have been sitting around waiting for a project since then.  And finally inspiration has come.  At least for the lids!  The Muppets were calling…

 I decided to make a Tic-Tac-Toe board featuring a couple of my favorite Muppets, Kermit and Animal.

For this project I used:

One unfinished wooden plaque
10 baby food jar lids
15 glass cabochons
Acrylic paint
Spray primer
Wool roving in black and red
Ribbon
Hot glue

Begin by painting the wooden plaque a pretty blue.  I used Periwinkle.  I then sprayed the lids and glass cabochons with a light coat of primer so that the acrylic paint would have something to adhere to.  Just a light coat will work.

Paint the lids once the primer is dry.  It will take several coats.  (The photo above is after the first coat).  Paint five lids red, and five lids a bright green.

These are the glass cabochons.  You can find them at the dollar store or any craft store, usually in the floral section.  I keep lots of these around.  They make great eyeballs, as you can see from my Jar O’Monsters.

Spray them lightly with primer, allow it to dry, and then paint them with acrylic paint.  You will want to paint five of them red, and ten of them white.

To finish the wooden base of the tic-tac-toe board, hot glue a pretty ribbon around the edges.  Mark off the tic-tac-toe board on top and paint in the lines with white acrylic paint.

Here we have everything painted and ready to go to the next step!

For Animal, begin by painting in the eyes with white, and the mouth with black, leaving a red area for his tongue.

Hot glue a red glass cabochon on for his nose.  Paint in his teeth and his eyeballs.  Animal is coming to life!

For a final touch, we need to give Animal some hair!  I used tiny amounts of wool roving in red and black to give him eyebrows and a mustache.  You can find wool roving in your craft store.  Also yarn would work in a pinch.

Hot glue the roving in place and there you have Animal!  Repeat for four more, for a total of five Animals!

Now lets work on Kermit!  Glue on the white painted cabochons for eyes, placing them near the top of the head.  Paint on a red smile.

Use black to paint in the eyes.  Kermit’s eyes are a curved line with a dot.  His smile is very wide.  Outline it in black.  Then add a touch of yellow to the green paint and highlight a bit right above his mouth to give him a little definition.

And here are your Muppet Tic-Tac-Toe pieces!  Five Kermits and five Animals!
