Are you a beginner quilter, or do you just have a bit of trouble picking out your fabric colors? Here is a series that can help you with both! I have joined Jen from Patterns by Jen with a fun new series; a Monthly Color Challenge!
I love a challenge and decided to take this one on. I thought you might be interested also! This year’s Color Challenge theme is Classic Cars. Each month, we will use the monthly color inspired by classic cars in a 12″ block pattern. This particular monthly challenge will be found on Jen’s website each month, but you can also follow along here.
Each month, Jen will put out a free pieced block pattern (not applique), based on the monthly color, along with a free video on how to create the block! For all information on this Challenge, and the current free pattern and video, GO HERE!
This is a great way to use up some of your scraps. Or…you can work with new fabrics. Either way, you will end up with a colorful creation and get some practice with piecing and color!
My answer to the Challenge…
I decided to go with the Grunge Series by Moda Fabrics. It has a mix of stars, dots and plain in the colors that I’m looking for, and seems to have a vintage flair. (At least to me). I plan on using each color with a black background.
To pull all of these colors together, I found this cute Disney Cars fabric for my sashing. It works with the theme and includes all the colors of the challenge. This is going to be fun!
Let’s get started!
April’s block color theme is Olive Green! Go to Jen’s website to pick up the free pattern for April and be sure to check out the video. It is a great help when putting the block together.
I pulled out my Olive Green and black fabric and followed Jen’s instructions to create this unique block.
This is such an interesting block. It is a great use of color. And I love to use lots of green! One example is Summer Pines from the Monthly Bench Pillow Series!
This fun pattern combines beautiful applique with pieced blocks. Color can make a huge difference on the look of a block. This pattern can be found in my shop HERE!
