Chaos Crochet Challenge- Bean Stitch

Welcome to the Chaos Challenge Crochet Along—where the spinning wheel is in charge and anything can happen!

What is a Chaos Blanket? Instead of carefully planning every row, we’ll let chance choose the yarn color, crochet stitch, and number of rows. No overthinking, no second-guessing—just spin the wheel and see where it takes us!

I’m creating my own Chaos Blanket using a special set of rules, and you’re invited to join the fun. Grab your yarn and crochet hook—it’s time to embrace the chaos and create something completely unique!

Round Eleven

I began with a spin of the wheel to choose which of the 50 stitches would be used for round ten.Ā  You can download the free Crochet Stitch list HERE. Chaos Crochet Stitches. I used the Free Spinning Wheel Random Number Generator that I found here to choose which stitch.

The spinning wheel chose number 15.Ā  The stitch I will be using for this round is called the Bean Stitch! I closed my eyes and chose a color from my bowl of yarn colors…It is now decided!Ā  Round eleven will be in Dark Denim, the stitch will be the Bean Stitch and I rolled dice for the number of rows and it will be 4 rows!Ā  Let’s get started!

Adjustment Row

Before we begin round eleven, we need to make an adjustment row from the previous round.Ā  I used the Dark Denim yarn to create a row of single crochets.Ā  Also be sure to count your stitches during this row to be sure that you still have your original amount of stitches.

Bean Stitch

Very cool stitch!Ā  The Bean stitch works up quickly and has super texture. It is similar to the bobble, but has a flatter texture.Ā  At least for me, it does work up a bit looser, so going down to a G hook was the plan.Ā  We are trying to keep the edges as even as we can and sometimes it helps to raise or lower the size of your hook depending upon the stitch. In this instance, I went down a hook size at a size (G) in order to keep my blanket edges as even as possible.Ā  Keep in mind that everyone’s tension is different, so play with it and see what works best for you!

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Bean Stitch
If you prefer video, I was able to find this one:

(Bean Stitch):
insert hook, yarn over, pull up a loop; yarn over, insert into same space, yarn over and pull up a loop.Ā  Repeat 2 more time until there are 6 loops on the hook.Ā  Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops.Ā  Chain 1 to lock.
Row 1: Chain 1.Ā  Sc in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc into first stitch.Ā  Chain 1 and skip next stitch.Ā  Create a Bean Stitch into the next stitch.Ā  *Skip next stitch and create a Bean Stitch in the following stitch. Repeat from *across.Ā  End with a sc in the last stitch.Ā  Chain 1 and turn.
Rows 3 and 4: Sc into first stitch.Ā  *Work bean stitches directly into the opening next to the chain-1/bean stitch from the previous row.Ā  Repeat from *across.Ā  Finish row with 1 sc in last stitch.Ā  Chain 1 and turn.
