Chaos Crochet Challenge- Spider Stitch

Welcome to the Chaos Challenge Crochet Along—where the spinning wheel is in charge and anything can happen!

What is a Chaos Blanket? Instead of carefully planning every row, we’ll let chance choose the yarn color, crochet stitch, and number of rows. No overthinking, no second-guessing—just spin the wheel and see where it takes us!

I’m creating my own Chaos Blanket using a special set of rules, and you’re invited to join the fun. Grab your yarn and crochet hook—it’s time to embrace the chaos and create something completely unique!

Round Eight

I began round one with a spin of the wheel to choose which of the 50 stitches would be used for round seven.Ā  You can download the free Crochet Stitch list HERE. Chaos Crochet Stitches. I used the Free Spinning Wheel Random Number Generator that I found here to choose which stitch.

The spinning wheel chose number 20.Ā  The stitch I will be using for this round is called the Spider Stitch! I closed my eyes and chose the colors from my bowl of yarn colors…It is now decided!Ā  Round eight will be in Grey Confetti, the stitch will be the Spider Stitch and I rolled dice for the number of rows and it will be 6 rows!Ā  Let’s get started!

Adjustment Row

Before we begin round eight, we need to make an adjustment row from the previous round.Ā  I used the Grey Confetti yarn to create a row of single crochets.Ā  Also be sure to count your stitches during this row to be sure that you still have your original amount of stitches.

Spider Stitch

The Spider Stitch is a simple stitch created with sc and dc.Ā  It gives a great texture and goes together quickly.Ā  We are trying to keep the edges as even as we can and sometimes it helps to raise or lower the size of your hook depending upon the stitch. In this instance, I went up a hook size at a size (H) in order to keep my blanket edges as even as possible.Ā  Keep in mind that everyone’s tension is different, so play with it and see what works best for you!

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Spider Stitch
If you prefer video, I was able to find this one:
Row 1: Chain 1.Ā  Work in the 2nd chain from hook.Ā  *Make a sc, chain 1, sc all in that same chain space.Ā  Skip the next chain.Ā  Repeat from *across. Turn.
Row 2: Make a sc, chain 1, sc directly into each chain-1 space from the previous row.Ā  Skip the single crochets and work only into the chain-1 spaces.
Rows 3-6: Repeat row 2.

Spider Stitch

I enjoyed creating the Spider Stitch.Ā  While it is not necessarily my favorite so far, (my current favorite is the Picot and Large V Stitch), it does work up quickly and has a great texture.

Be sure to come back on Monday, October 19 for Round 9!
