Chaos Crochet Challenge- Royal Ridge Stitch

Welcome to the Chaos Challenge Crochet Along—where the spinning wheel is in charge and anything can happen!

What is a Chaos Blanket? Instead of carefully planning every row, we’ll let chance choose the yarn color, crochet stitch, and number of rows. No overthinking, no second-guessing—just spin the wheel and see where it takes us!

I’m creating my own Chaos Blanket using a special set of rules, and you’re invited to join the fun. Grab your yarn and crochet hook—it’s time to embrace the chaos and create something completely unique!

Round Twelve

I began with a spin of the wheel to choose which of the 50 stitches would be used for round ten.Ā  You can download the free Crochet Stitch list HERE. Chaos Crochet Stitches. I used the Free Spinning Wheel Random Number Generator that I found here to choose which stitch.

The spinning wheel chose number 1.Ā  The stitch I will be using for this round is called the Royal Ridge Stitch! I closed my eyes and chose a color from my bowl of yarn colors…It is now decided!Ā  Round twelve will be in Glacier, the stitch will be the Royal Ridge Stitch and I rolled dice for the number of rows and it will be 10 rows!Ā  Let’s get started!

Adjustment Row

Before we begin round eleven, we need to make an adjustment row from the previous round.Ā  I used the Glacier yarn to create a row of single crochets.Ā  Also be sure to count your stitches during this row to be sure that you still have your original amount of stitches.

Royal Ridge Stitch

Very cool stitch!Ā  The Royal Ridge Stitch is a fun, easy stitch that helps give the eyes a rest from all the bobbles that have been going on! At least for me, it does work up a bit tighter, so going up to a H hook was the plan.Ā  We are trying to keep the edges as even as we can and sometimes it helps to raise or lower the size of your hook depending upon the stitch. In this instance, I went up a hook size at a size (H) in order to keep my blanket edges as even as possible.Ā  Keep in mind that everyone’s tension is different, so play with it and see what works best for you!

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Royal Ridge Stitch
If you prefer video, I was able to find this one:
Row 1: Work a half double crochet (hdc) into the second chain from hook.Ā  Continue with a hdc in each stitch across.Ā  Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: Work a hdc into the third loop only of each stitch across.Ā  How to find the third loop: Locate the standard top V-loop.Ā  The third loop is the horizontal bar just below the front loop.Ā  Chain 1 and turn.
Rows 3-10: Repeat row 2.

I enjoyed creating the Royal Ridge stitch and I love how it changes the pattern in the blanket.Ā  A perfect place for the eyes to rest.

Be sure to come back on Monday, November 2 for Round 13!
