Chaos Crochet Challenge- Wide Half Double Stitch

Welcome to the Chaos Challenge Crochet Along—where the spinning wheel is in charge and anything can happen!

What is a Chaos Blanket? Instead of carefully planning every row, we’ll let chance choose the yarn color, crochet stitch, and number of rows. No overthinking, no second-guessing—just spin the wheel and see where it takes us!

I’m creating my own Chaos Blanket using a special set of rules, and you’re invited to join the fun. Grab your yarn and crochet hook—it’s time to embrace the chaos and create something completely unique!

Round Fourteen

I began with a spin of the wheel to choose which of the 50 stitches would be used for round fourteen.Ā  You can download the free Crochet Stitch list HERE. Chaos Crochet Stitches. I used the Free Spinning Wheel Random Number Generator that I found here to choose which stitch.

The spinning wheel chose number 4.Ā  The stitch I will be using for this round is called the Wide Half Double Stitch! I closed my eyes and chose a color from my bowl of yarn colors…It is now decided!Ā  Round fourteen will be in Clover, the stitch will be the Wide Half Double Stitch and I rolled dice for the number of rows and it will be 4 rows!Ā  Let’s get started!

Adjustment Row

Before we begin round fourteen, we need to make an adjustment row from the previous round.Ā  I used the Clover yarn to create a row of single crochets.Ā  Also be sure to count your stitches during this row to be sure that you still have your original amount of stitches.

Wide Half Double Stitch

Very cool stitch!Ā  It is simple to work, easy to remember, and gives great texture.Ā  At least for me, it does work up a bit tighter, so I went back up to the H hook.Ā  We are trying to keep the edges as even as we can and sometimes it helps to raise or lower the size of your hook depending upon the stitch. In this instance, I went up a hook size at a size (H) in order to keep my blanket edges as even as possible.Ā  Keep in mind that everyone’s tension is different, so play with it and see what works best for you!

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Wide Half Double Stitch

If you would rather follow a video, I found this one on Daisy Farm Crafts.
Row 1: Chain 2, hdc across.Ā  Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2: Yarn over, then insert your hook directly between the posts of the first and second HDC from the previous row (underneath all the horizontal bars/loops of the post). Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yarn over again and pull through all 3 loops. Continue working wide half-double crochets in the space between each pair of posts across the entire row.Ā  Chain 2 and turn.
Rows 3-4: Repeat Row 2
