A weekend with the dogs; a new way of life, and a cup of coffee…priceless!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

I had hinted recently that my husband and I have taken some major steps towards our retirement in the past few months.  The biggest step?  We finally bought that RV that we have always wanted.  We plan on becoming full-time RV’ers in the next year or so and traveling the United States.  Don’t worry, it has plenty of room for crafting.  Ha!  The Sitcom will be on the road!

Our next step is getting ourselves and the Sitcom dogs used to it.  A little at a time.  So our maiden voyage a few weeks ago took us to Tybee Island, GA for a long weekend.  The first weekend for us and the first time the dogs had ever been out on the road with the exception of vet visits.  Truly an adventure for all of us.

Our first step was stocking the RV with all the comforts of home.  Which of course, included coffee.  Since, frankly, I cannot function in the morning without a good dose of coffee, which was an issue in itself as I have never made my own coffee.  Yep, I know.  Ridiculous.  My husband and I spend a ton of money every month on fancy coffees from the local coffee shops.

Our issue here was two-fold.  We need to watch our budget much more closely now while we are downsizing, and we needed a way to make decent coffee while out on the road.  That is where the Keurig® K-Cup brewer and Maxwell House Single Serving Cups came in.  The Keurig® K-Cup brewer is easy enough that even I can operate it.  And it makes delicious single serve coffee!  My mornings were saved!

Maxwell House Café Collection® single serve cups are 100% Arabica coffee in three delicious varieties:

-House Blend

-French Roast

-Breakfast Blend

They are all delicious, and can be found exclusively at your local Dollar General at a great price!

So how was our first trip?

The weather was beautiful, the lighthouse was awesome.  We ate one evening at the Crab Shack.  And we took the dogs on lot of walks…

Oh wait, you wanted to know about the RV?  Well, I got over my initial fear of that big pipe that goes from the toilet tank to the sewer.  But I’m thinking that will totally be the husband’s job.  You know, along with the killing of spiders, the reaching of cups from the top cabinet, the taking out of the trash…we will add the poop thing.  In exchange, I’ll make him coffee every morning.  Sounds fair, right?

I haven’t gone over that with him yet, but I’m sure he’ll be on board…

Ralph took to the RV right away as he has already claimed his spot.

Faith, on the other hand is still adjusting.

In the meantime, we both enjoyed our Maxwell House Café Collection® single serve coffee every morning.  My favorite is the Breakfast Blend.  Very mild and delicious.  Be sure to swing by Dollar General and check it out.  And their website is hilarious.  Check out their Get Back to Basics House Rules.  This is my favorite, and my new motto…

Granted, the RV does not come with a dishwasher.  The husband says I’m the dishwasher.  Stay tuned for lots of great stories and follow along on our RV adventures.  It should be a blast!

  1. Hi girly!

Thank you! The hubby and I have been working toward this goal for several years now. We still have lots to do before we can finally hit the road permanently, but we are totally looking forward to it. We hope to be able to retire in another year.

I’m sure there will be plenty of funny stories to tell. In fact, I already have a few that are being penned right now!

Sorry to hear about the forced retirement. It seems to happen more and more these days. But I am glad you stop by the Sitcom now and then. It is always fun to hear from you!

  2. Hi Linda!

Thank you so much for the invitation! We just might take you up on it one day! We are so excited to start planning our travels, but we have to take one step at a time here, which includes getting the house ready to sell. Should make for lots of funny blog stories! Arizona is definitely on our to-do list!

  3. Hi Monica!

For sure! I’d love to meet you in person! Niagara Falls is in our plans, but it will be a bit of time yet. It is so beautiful in Canada, we definitely plan to see as much of the country as we can. I’m so excited to start a new page. Know what I mean?

When you make it to the southwest, we live on 40 acres in NE Arizona. You can camp out here for a couple of days if you like seclusion and peace and quiet. There are so many places to visit in Arizona that are absolutely beautiful. Congratulations on your new life style!

Congratulations on your new RV!!!! Hubby and I had always wanted to get an
RV and travel across Canada and in to the States! Unfortunately, life gave us an early start to retirement (job loss) and thus we settled for a new small house in the country. At first it was fun and new – now after 5 years well, I miss my friends at work (although there is no longer a workplace!) and still haven’t made any new ones! My best friend now is my laptop (retirement gift from the kids) and the people on-line. My husband has adapted to golfing. A BIG change in life so get ready for it and many surprises along the way. Enjoy your new found life and keep us laughing! 🙂
